Access for all

We pride ourselves on offering ‘access for all’. All of our venues provide accessible facilities for disabled customers with a commitment to continuously improving the accessibility both in and around our venues to ensure they meet the needs of our customers. 

All of our staff are trained in disability awareness. For customers who require additional accessibility, each venue is equipped with the features listed below:

For health and safety reasons you must be able to walk up and down the stairs unaided to access the slides at The Wave. 

Accessibility Facilities

Moat House Leisure and Neighbourhood Centre

  • Free disabled parking located at the rear of the building.
  • Level access throughout.
  • Automatic doors upon entry with an accessibility intercom to reception.
  • Large directional signs.
  • Low level counters at the reception and café.
  • Hearing loop available at reception.
  • Accessible toilets, with signs in braille.
  • Accessible changing facilities with shower seat, with signs in braille.
  • Trained fitness instructors to assist.
  • IFI accredited fitness equipment – The following equipment is wheelchair accessible:
    • Arm bike
    • Chest press
    • Shoulder press
    • Seated row
    • Cable pully machines
    • Free weights

Centre AT7

Accessibility chair and lift for Centre AT7’s swimming pool is located on the ground floor, right side of the pool.

The Alan Higgs Centre

Accessibility rooms and changing beds are available within Centre AT7’s changing areas.

Accessibility shower is also available alongside chairs within Centre AT7’s Changing Rooms.

Accessibility toilet and changing bed is also available in Centre AT7’s Changing Areas.

Accessibility hoists are also located within The Alan Higgs Centre’s changing rooms, allowing movement across the whole room.

Xcel Leisure Centre

Pool pod is available on the left side of Xcel Leisure Centre’s Swimming Pool, upon exiting the changing room facilities.

Accessibility rooms and changing beds are available within Xcel Leisure Centre’s changing areas.

The Wave

Pool pod is available and located on the left end of The Wave’s Swimming Pool. Extra assistance chairs are available if required.

Pool hoist is available on the middle section of The Wave’s Swimming Pool, upon exit of the changing rooms.

Pool hoist is available by the Lazy River in The Wave’s Waterpark. To access this, an access door can be found opposite The Riptide slide, to the left of the staff stairwell for The Rapids.

We have partnered with WelcoMe to give you the most dignified, discreet and personal method to share your requirements and access needs to enhance your experience, making you feel confident when visiting us.

These are currently available at Moat House Leisure and Neighbourhood Centre, The Alan Higgs Centre and The Wave.

How to Use WelcoMe

  1. Below you can find more information about The Wave/Alan Higgs Centre and venue access.
  2. Click on ‘Plan a visit’. If you don’t have an account, sign up and complete your accessibility profile.
  3. Share your access needs, requirements, and what help you may need.
  4. We will get notified so the team can ensure they are prepared to greet you and have what you need ready.
  5. On the day of the visit, once you are at the venue click on ‘Arrive’. We will get a notification and be with you shortly.
