Doze Under Dippy with sleepover event at the Herbert this autumn

Coventry’s Herbert Art Gallery & Museum will host a special overnight event for dino-loving families.

Over 100,000 people have already been to see Dippy, the Nation’s Favourite Dinosaur, since it arrived on loan from the Natural History Museum in February.

But now a lucky few will get the opportunity to Doze Under Dippy in a fun-packed prehistoric slumber party.

Designed for inquisitive and adventurous children aged 6-11, the event will include late night torch-lit tours of the museum, arts and crafts, a chance to get hands-on with the Herbert’s own fossil collection as well as all the fun facts about Dippy you can imagine.

Children will need to be joined by a responsible adult. Those attending will need to bring a pillow, a sleeping back and their toiletries. Light refreshments will be provided, as will breakfast the following morning.

The event will be led by the Herbert’s expert Learning and Engagement team who will create a fun, engaging and educational atmosphere, where inquisitive children can make the most of the unique experience.

Lisa Ford, Head of the Learning and Engagement team said, “We have had ambitions to host sleepover events at the Herbert for a long time and Dippy has presented us with the perfect opportunity to make it an experience for families to remember for a lifetime.

“There is something that invokes such a strong sense of curiosity and imagination in children and adults alike when it comes to museums at night. The atmosphere is different; you have a feeling of getting VIP treatment to be in the building through the night; and it’s something that can’t be done on a day to day basis.

“Families will sleep directly around Dippy, and with the exhibition area having a partial glass roof, they really will be dozing under the stars with a Jurassic twist, but all in the comfort of a cosy, indoor area.”

The event will take place on Saturday November 18, starting at 6pm after the museum closes to the public.
