New CV Life Wellbeing Walks proving popular across Coventry

New walking groups are popping up across Coventry with the aim to get more people moving and socialising.

CV Life’s Coventry Wellbeing Walks will be taking place across three city venues, Xcel Leisure Centre, Alan Higgs Centre and Centre AT7.

The session out of Xcel is already thriving with people enjoying a weekly walk which takes in the beautiful campus at University of Warwick. Centre AT7 also has an established group which takes in the area’s scenic canal routes.

A new group will start at Alan Higgs on Friday, 1 September.

The walks are open to all and are perfect for people looking for a low impact way of exercising but also for those who enjoy finding ways to connect with the local community.

The sessions, which are run alongside the established Coventry Ramblers Club, involve a two mile walk starting and ending at the host venue. They are free and do not require booking.

CV Life Rehab Coordinator Nick Batchelor is leading the sessions and he says they are a great way to stay active.

“Walking is a really natural, effective way to keep your body active, particularly for people who might not be able to do more high energy activities,” Nick said.

“The sessions are friendly and fun, everyone gets on and has a chat which is really good to see. It’s a really nice atmosphere, very warm and friendly.

“So there is the physical and health element but there is also that social element too and ultimately both of these things can have a huge impact on mental health as well.”

Sessions run at Centre AT7 every Wednesday from 2pm, Xcel Leisure Centre every Tuesday from 11am and Alan Higgs every Friday at 11am. The Higgs session is a new one which will start on September 1.
